Position Overview

The Project Manager/Estimator is responsible for estimating, planning, and managing project(s) to ensure completion within schedule, budget and in compliance with all company safety, quality, and operational policies while meeting customer needs.

Responsibilities

Project Management:

  • Promote and comply with all Company safety policies and procedures
  • Work with Safety, HR, Equipment, and all other departments within Wanzek
  • Manage all aspects of varied construction or service projects serving site clients
  • Work with customer to determine and document project needs and specifications
  • Contract professional services; schedule and coordinate
  • Identify and coordinate the submittals of all documents
  • Review project RFQ documents and prepare bid list to ensure all work items are accounted for; manage the bid process
  • Attend pre-job and job meetings
  • Determine purchasing needs and coordinate purchase all material components
  • Negotiate and award contracts to respective subcontractor contract
  • Initiate, review and obtain Owner’s approval on project documents
  • Quote all change order and Owner’s request for extras
  • Identify, research and resolve all contract disputes with the Owner
  • Maintain prime contract with the Owner
  • Establish monthly billing procedure with the Owner
  • Manage project schedule and identify resource needs
  • Code and approve invoices and timecards
  • Review the project and determine acceptability of completed work on an on-going basis
  • Establish and maintain job cost control, which will be reported monthly
  • Approve material and subcontract invoices for payment
  • Visit jobsites on an ongoing basis as needed
  • Work directly with site supervision
  • Up to 40% travel required

Estimating:

  • Manage Pre-Bid process
  • Setup bid spreadsheets, read and understand plans and specifications, perform quantity takeoff
  • Understand and estimate labor costs
  • Complete and submit bid documents
  • Prepare budgets for approval
  • Solicit vendor and subcontractor quotes
  • Effectively choose vendors and sub-contractors according to project specifications
  • Manage the internal processes to set up jobs in the company’s enterprise system
  • Coordinating and conducting pre-construction/risk management activities ensuring jobs are properly planned

Qualifications

Education and Work Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree (B. S.) from four-year college or university in Project Management, Business Management, Energy or Renewable Energy, Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of industry experience and knowledge of estimating and project management required
  • Project Management Institute PMP certification preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Take reasonable care of your own and others’ health and safety and of those who may be affected by the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for working toward Wanzek’s Zero Injury principles
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, and other business software
  • Read, analyze and interpret blueprints, professional journals, technical procedures, contracts or governmental regulations
  • Write reports, business correspondence and document project activities
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from project managers, wind technicians, clients, customers and the general public
  • Effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors
  • Calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
  • Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
