~ Connecticut River Conservancy (CRC) is the voice for the Connecticut River watershed, from source to sea. ~

We collaborate with partners across four states to protect and advocate for your rivers and educate and engage communities. We bring people together to prevent pollution, improve habitat, and promote enjoyment of your river and its tributary streams. Healthy rivers support healthy economies.

Position Overview

Recognizing that planning and implementation of the Source to Sea Cleanup (S2S) spans several seasons, CRC seeks qualified individual(s) who can commit to some or all of the following tasks, most of which are office tasks and others are in the field. Additional tasks TBD. This position may be split among one or two workers.

Responsibilities

Pre-cleanup (June-Sept):

  • Assist CRC staff and partners with planning phase to include attending Source to Sea planning meetings with consortium of Cleanup partners, record notes of the meetings, follow up on tasks
  • Support CRC’s Advocacy Campaign – research and implement tasks TBD
  • Research and order supplies, pick-up where possible
  • Prep and send welcome packets
  • Pack and ship supplies; deliver local supplies, where possible
  • Distribute Posters
  • Send Email to Landowners Requesting permission for volunteers to collect trash on their property.
  • Research plastic recycling options (i.e.: TerraCycle)
  • Assist with coordination of Green River Cleanup, to include:
    • Scout cleanup sites, create Trash Site Report Form for each
    • Assist with procuring and training of Green River team leaders
    • Write and distribute food sponsorship request letters
    • Research water providers - alternatives to plastic bottles: town, Coca-Cola, KleenKanteen, Poland Springs, etc.

At the Cleanup (September 27-28, other dates TBA):

  • Assist MA groups (as needed)
  • Help lead particular groups
  • Set up/Staff registration table/Clean up at Green River After-Party

Post-Cleanup (October):

  • Prepare and send thank you cards and certificates
  • Take supply inventory, label boxes, store in basement
  • Enter trash tallies electronically (those submitted in paper form)
  • Submit data to American Rivers, Ocean Conservancy and other stakeholders

Qualifications

  • Familiarity with spreadsheets, mapping tools
  • Excellent writing skills, attention to detail
  • Interest in river ecology, stewardship and advocacy
  • Ability to work in office environment—collaborative, hard-working, sense of humor
  • Ability and interest in getting out on the river to scout sites
  • Car or access to transportation

Additional Information

  • Compensation: $12.50/hour
  • Hours: 10-15 hours/week
