Position Overview

The American Battlefield Trust, America's largest non-profit battlefield preservation organization, is seeking an enthusiastic individual with a passion for protecting historic open space. The position of Grants Manager, Government Grants in the Trust’s Real Estate Department is immensely satisfying, as he/she will be responsible for securing federal, state, and local government funding to preserve in perpetuity historically important sites associated with the Civil War, Revolutionary War, and the War of 1812.

Responsibilities

  • This position will work closely with government officials at all levels on all aspects of the grant process, from application to approval to disbursement.
  • Responsibilities include preparing and managing grants submitted to Trust’s main federal grant program, the American Battlefield Protection Program (ABPP), which involves state and local government entities that serve as sponsors for the program.  
  • The position will also be responsible for internal and external tracking and reporting of government grants.
  • Additionally, this position will be involved in the transfer of Trust land to federal, state, and local government entities.

Qualifications

  • The successful candidate will also be expected to work with non-profit partner organizations to secure government grant funding for battlefield preservation projects.
  • The candidate must be able to establish excellent working relationships, meet project deadlines, have basic spreadsheet skills and superior writing skills, and must be willing to travel.
  • A B.A./B.S. degree and at least three (3) years’ experience in project and/or grants management is required.
  • A graduate degree is preferred. Land preservation experience is a plus.
  • A passion to save American history is essential.

Compensation

  • Salary is commensurate with experience.
