Position Overview

The Department of Natural Resources is hiring a Private Water Hydrogeologist position in the Division of Environmental Management. This position will be stationed in the DNR Headquarters located at 101 S. Webster Street in the heart of downtown Madison, near the state capitol, the Madison Metro bus route and the Capital City bike path. Responsibilities

  • This position is responsible for protecting groundwater quality and public health by applying geological, hydrogeological and groundwater contaminant analysis to support implementation of specific well construction and approval requirements in NR 812, Wis. Admin. Code.  
  • Activities include development of special well construction specifications to address site-specific groundwater and drinking water quality issues, to establish special well casing depth areas, and to support decisions for landfill variances, heat exchange projects, product approvals and other related approvals.
  • This position will provide hydrogeologic, drinking water well construction, and groundwater quality expertise to department staff, and serve as a contact for the drilling industry and well owners.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified candidates will have:

  • Training and/or experience in groundwater chemistry, geology and/or hydrogeology.
  • Training and/or experience in well construction practices.

Well-qualified candidates will have:

  • Experience analyzing, interpreting and applying environmental regulations. 
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in physical science, water resources, groundwater chemistry, geology, hydrogeology or related field.

Note: Employment will require the selected candidate to pass a background check.  DNR does not sponsor work visas, thus, in compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.

Compensation

  • Starting pay is between $48,630 and $66,830 annually ($23.38 - $32.13 per hour).
