Position Overview

Apex is seeking a Senior Performance Engineer that will be the lead for developing capabilities in managing wind farms and support a team of field operations professionals distributed throughout the continental US. This position will provide technical support to the field, develop models internally to optimize asset efficiency, develop condition based modeling programs for turbine efficiency and reliability and provide leadership in analysis methods, database oversite and reporting.

The successful candidate has the ability to professionally manage projects in an organized and streamlined capacity, possesses exceedingly advanced analytical skills, and has a robust understanding of regression models, machine learning models, and statistical correlation. Our ideal candidate has a background in power or reliability engineering, experience developing automated models of predictive maintenance, and experience working with wind turbine analytics.

Responsibilities

  • Develop models for optimizing turbine and fleet performance
  • Develop condition based maintenance models for turbines under management
  • Create and automate condition based monitoring programs and integrate with workflows of the operations groups
  • Evaluation of OEM RCA and corrective actions
  • Performs reliability studies for fleet performance
  • Interface with industry groups for capture of best practices
  • Complete process development
  • Performs root cause analysis for major or repetitive events
  • Project management for major events and process system integration
  • Mentoring of team members for skills and personal development
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years related experience, energy related experience preferred
  • Master’s degree or higher in mechanical engineering or similar
  • Experience with wind turbine performance analytics preferred
  • Experience with development of automated models for predictive maintenance preferred
  • Experience with reliability engineering preferred
  • Interest and experience with turbine diagnostics and prognostics
  • Ability to work closely with cross-functional teams of internal and external resources
  • Excellent communication, engineering, and organizational skills
  • Expertise with project management for root cause analysis
  • Ability to communicate with client’s technical and business contacts
  • Ability to project a positive image of the company and cultivate and maintain positive relationships
  • Ability to travel ~20%
  • Must be able to work in Charlottesville, Virginia
