Position Overview

This Environmental Analyst position is located near the Naval Support Activity Crane working with the Crane Division, Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC Crane) Environmental Protection Office to support the hazardous waste and explosive hazardous waste programs. 

The candidate must: have the knowledge and experience to be able to handle unusual and seldom occurring job events with minimal assistance; Serve in a lead role to supervise field technicians and train others; Interact daily with functional peer groups; and interact with outside customers (Interaction normally involves exceptional presentation of factual information through participation in meetings, inspections and telephone conferences). Position will also require support with internal SAIC local operations and facilities.

Responsibilities

Tasking includes a broad range of environmental permitting and compliance oversight activities, which may include evaluating customer (generation sites, storage facility, etc) compliance to federal, state and DOD environmental regulations, reviewing and evaluating hazardous waste operations and shipping documents for compliance with regulatory requirements, reviewing and evaluating the performance and effectiveness of the customer’s environmental compliance programs, and preparation of permits (i.e., applications, modifications, renewals).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or other related technical field and 1-2 years of related experience.
  • The candidate will have knowledge of Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) regulations.
  • Experience in RCRA permitting or any other environmental permitting is required.
  • Must possess good oral and written communications skills and be familiar with PC Microsoft applications.
  • Position requires good organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Must be able to work in a busy environment and meet short suspense actions from the Government customer.

Desired Skills:

  • HAZWOPER certification preferred, but not mandatory. However, the successful candidate must be able to pass 40-hr HAZWOPER training or be able to wear a respirator provided by SAIC if necessary at a later date, for continued employment.
  • Previous experience with other environmental programs (i.e., NEPA, CWA, CAA, SPCC) will also be favorably considered.
  • Previous experience with Department of Defense and/or Department of Navy activities will be beneficial.

Clearance Requirement:

  • Must be able to obtain a Secret security clearance.
