Acterra's staff provides environmental education in the areas of energy and climate change, corporate sustainability, and advocacy to build an informed and empowered citizenry. Our programs include Energy and Climate, Business Partnerships for Sustainability, a Public Lecture Series, and an Environmental Library and Resource Center. Position Overview

We are looking for an executive director to lead Acterra in its efforts to combat climate change. The executive director will manage a budget of about $1 million, report to a 16- member board of directors, oversee a staff of ten, including four direct reports, and ensure outstanding educational and engaging experiences for our members.

The ideal candidate has a passion for, and knowledge of, environmental sustainability, a successful history of people management, deep connections within the climate solutions community, and experience in the nonprofit sector. And most of all, Acterra seeks a leader who can support, inspire, and direct our fabulous staff.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree 
  • 10 years of related work experience, including 5 years of management level experience in a nonprofit organization 
  • Master’s degree and/or other graduate degree is preferred
  • Personal and/or professional experience that indicates a commitment to Acterra’s mission 
  • A track record of manifesting positive relationships and partnerships with external stakeholder groups, including cities and counties 
  • Excellent communication skills, including writing, editing and public speaking 
  • Experience working with a board of directors 
  • Comfort and skill in raising funds from individuals and institutions 
  • Proven skills in strategic planning, budgeting, finance, operations, and human resources management 
  • Some proficiency with social media
