With more than 4,500 members, we advocate for environmental protection and restoration because we believe that is the key to a thriving economy, healthy community and high quality of life. 

Mobile Baykeeper achieves our mission by taking a systematic approach to address environmental concerns:

  • Research: We investigate the policies, regulations and science behind every issue to fully understand the problem. Exploring all avenues, we are able to determine the best solution to address each issue.
  • Collaboration: We form diverse partnerships with organizations and businesses. Combining efforts enables us to have greater impact in attaining our common goals: clean water, clean air and healthy communities. 
  • Education: Armed with facts, we educate our members, the public and decision makers on the problems and solutions. We advocate for change when, where and how it is needed most.

Position Overview

We are currently hiring AmeriCorps Members for the 2018-2019 program year to help us expand our Baykeeper Patrol Program, Strategic Watershed Awareness and Monitoring Program, and Volunteer Program. These programs directly support our work for clean water, clean air, and healthy communities and are funded through the Governors Office of Volunteer Services

The Baykeeper Patrol Program researches local pollution problems to improve water quality, reduce impacts from stormwater, sewer, and/or industrial pollution. AmeriCorps Members will work in target areas of Mobile and Baldwin Counties. Core activities include conducting site inspections, patrolling local waterways, assisting with comment letters and policy issues, investigating citizen concerns, collecting water quality samples, documenting environmental pollution, and creating environmental issue fact sheets. AmeriCorps Members will receive experience with environmental issues including stormwater, sewer, and industrial pollution, state and federal regulations and permit reviews and gain skills in field sampling techniques.

The expected term for these positions is from September 4, 2018 - June 30, 2019. Interviews will begin in August. 

Compensation

  • $6,290 received over the term and eligible for $2,907.50 education award upon completion of all requirements and service term.
