~ Established in 1999, Transcon Environmental, Inc., offers environmental consulting services throughout the United States. Our highly successful team of resource professionals provides environmental planning, permitting, and compliance services. ~

Position Overview

  • We are seeking full-time, environmental compliance monitors for projects located in Virginia and West Virginia.
  • The office will be based around the Roanoke, Virginia area, however, most of the work will be in the aforementioned national forest locations, so travel is required.
  • Ideal candidates for this work will possess a degree in an environmental resources field and have experience performing construction monitoring, especially within Virginia.
  • We anticipate that employment will begin in January 2019.

Responsibilities

  • The job primarily involves environmental compliance monitoring of natural gas pipeline construction projects crossing the Monongahela, George Washington and Jefferson National Forests.
  • The principal duties will be inspecting and monitoring construction activities to ensure resource protection measures are being implemented to protect sensitive resources (i.e., archeological, biological, and visual resources; waters; soils; unique geological features; etc.).
  • An example of daily activities may include verifying sensitive archaeological sites flagged for avoidance or ensuring rare plant populations are properly flagged and avoided.
  • Other duties will consist of tracking and reporting construction activities, documentation of compliance/non-compliance with resource protection measures, filing daily reports, photo documenting site conditions, and coordinating with other relevant parties.

Qualifications

Required Experience:

  • Degree in an environmental resource field.
  • Ability to work long hours.
  • Excellent navigation skills using global positioning system units, maps, and iPads.
  • Ability to operate four-wheel drive vehicles.
  • Ability to perform work duties independently.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Highly organized, motivated, thorough, accurate, dependable, and trustworthy.
  • Good problem-solving skills.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with one or more of the following:
    • Virginia and West Virginia biological resources.
    • Implementing and/or monitoring erosion and sediment controls.
    • Virginia and West Virginia cultural resources.
    • Working with and understanding of Karst formations geology.
  • Working in the field on construction projects.
  • Familiarity with typical gas pipeline construction activities.
  • Performing environmental inspections for construction monitoring.
  • Working in Monongahela, George Washington and Jefferson National Forests.

Special Requirements:

  • Applicants must have a clean driving record for at least 5 years prior to the start of work.
  • Offers of employment will be contingent upon passing a background check and drug and alcohol testing.

Compensation

  • Competitive salary (exempt).
  • Eligible for full benefits (i.e., medical, dental, vision, 401K).
  • Reimbursement for meals and lodging on multiple day assignments.
  • Compensation will be based on the qualifications of the applicant.
