~ The New Jersey School of Conservation (NJSOC) is the environmental field campus of Montclair State University located 60 miles from the main campus on a 240-acre tract in the Stokes State Forest of Sussex County NJ. ~
The NJSOC is at the center of 30,000 acres of state forest and federal lands, surrounded The Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area,Stokes State Forest, High Point State Park and a mosaic of properties held by the Nature Conservancy and the Conservation Trust. This unique site is one of the largest undeveloped tracts in New Jersey, and is therefore a unique setting for environmental science research and education in the most densely populated state.
Position Overview
Montclair State University’s field station, the New Jersey School of Conservation, is looking for a highly motivated research scientist to conduct biological research, mentor graduate students working on their MS in biology and teach within a highly successful residential Environmental Education program aimed at middle school students.
Responsibilities
- Teach environmentally based field sessions to visiting school groups and special interest groups who visit the NJSOC.
- Mentor graduate students, interns and staff.
- Conduct research in area of expertise.
- Work with NJDEP Endangered and Nongame Species personnel on existing research projects dealing with endangered and threatened species and species of special concern.
- Maintain permits.
- Develop new lessons and classes.
- Maintains equipment.
- Evaluate programs.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Management retains the right to add or change job duties at any time.
Qualifications
Required:
- MS in Biology or related field.
Preferred:
- PhD in Biology or related field.
Compensation: Commensurate with experience.
