Ashoka is a non-profit organization that supports social entrepreneurship worldwide. We provide funding to people who are developing social enterprises that promote the public benefit.
Our fields of work include economic development, environment, health, civic engagement, human rights, and learning/education. Fellows are nominated by their peers. Their ventures can be for-profit or non-profit but must be innovative solutions directed at creating a positive social or environmental impact.
Ashoka has established programs in over 60 countries and supports the work of nearly 2500 Fellows. We employ 160 staff in 25 regional offices throughout Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa.
We search the world for leading social entrepreneurs at the launch stage, and provide them with a living stipend for an average of three years, allowing them to focus full-time on building their institutions and spreading their ideas.
Ashoka uses its $30 million annual budget to invest in innovative people rather than projects. We invest in people with big ideas about how to achieve social change, such as ways to alleviate poverty or improve access to education, that are sustainable and replicable.
Our mission is to build a world where everyone is a changemaker.
