Biography

ARCH Venture Partners invests in the development of seed and early stage technology companies that have the potential to grow rapidly into successful businesses. ARCH invests primarily in companies co-founded with leading scientists and entrepreneurs, concentrating on bringing to market innovations in information technology, life sciences, and physical sciences.

ARCH currently manages six funds totaling over $1.5 billion and has invested in the earliest venture capital rounds for more than 110 companies. We are interested in inventions work towards resolving the greates issues of our time – conservation of the environment, management of global climate, provision of adequate energy, maintenance of human health, insurance of human security, and of course others.

We have a national investment scope with regional focus in geographic markets underserved by venture community. Our approach is to invest conservatively at first to reduce or extinguish risk and then lead or co-lead additional rounds of financing all the way to liquidity. Although out initial investments at the seed and first outside round can be in the hundreds of thousands to millions, we have made investments up to $15 million in follow on rounds.

To date we have made a number of investments in the clean technology sector including Artificial Muscle (electro-active polymers), Aveso (thin efficient displays), Cambrios Technologies, Nanophase Technologies (new materials), CoolEdge Lighting (Solid State Lighting), Sapphire Energy (biofuels), Innovalight (solar)
