Industrialisation Fund for Developing Countries (IFU) is Denmark’s investment vehicle for supporting international development. We invest knowledge and venture capital in private-sector projects in developing countries whose aim is to quickly become self-sustaining. The investments are made often but not always with Danish public or private sector partners.
IFU makes investments in a wide variety of sectors including industry, agriculture, water, energy, finance, transportation, services, healthcare, forestry, consumer goods, telecommunications, and waste management. The IFU provides capital through loans, guarantees and share purchase. Our energy investments have included multiple biogas production facilities and wind turbine components production facilities.
The Funds’ indicative general limit of engagement (loans and share capital) in a single project is 50% of the balance in projects with a total investment of up to DKK 7.5 million, and gradually decreasing to 30% in projects with a balance of more than DKK 12.5m (up to $1 million USD). For projects in Low Income Countries (LICs), the indicative limit for IFU is 49% of the balance.
