This graduate program is for impassioned people who want to work towards the creation of a more just, humane, democratic and sustainable world. It is ideal for business people, entrepreneurs, intrapreneurs, community organizers, environmental stewards and social justice advocates.
This low-residency Masters can be taken as a 48 credit program or as a 1-year, 24-credit certificate of graduate study. Students define their topic of inquiry and then, in close collaboration with a faculty advisor, self-design their own course of study. This approach assures the focus is deeply engaging and meaningful to students’ lives.
The program is designed for working adults. At the beginning of each semester students attend an 8-day residency at Goddard, during which they create that semester’s study plan. They then return home to work independently on their plans, in concert with a faculty advisor.

In this low-residency 48-credit Masters program in Sustainable Business and Communities, students will learn how the concerns of social responsibility, sustainability, and social justice are inextricably linked. Communities around the world continue to become increasingly interconnected around issues of human rights, the distribution of wealth, climate change, and ethical leadership. The allocation of resources, the drive of the world’s people for self-determination, and the long-term vitality of the planet require new and innovative solutions to these social, political, economic, and environmental issues.
A Bachelors in Sustainability is also offered, and, students can also choose to pursue a one-year, 24-credit certificate of graduate study in Sustainable Business.
