Study Says Industrial Agriculture Limits Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Agriculture groups are embracing a new study, which says modern farming techniques have help reduce greenhouse gas emissions by increasing crop yields.

The study by three Standford University researchers suggests that better plant varieties and other advances have allowed farmers to produce more food without plowing more land, which releases carbon stored in soils and forests.

However, some environmentalists are questioning the science. They say it’s based on incorrect assumptions about how land would have been used without the advancements.

Furthermore, Bille Freese of the Center For Food Safety, said he suspects the researchers were trying to "provide some kind of justification for industrial agriculture."
