Research + Incubation Team Overview:

Our Research + Incubation (R+I) Team nurtures the sparks, seeds and early-stage developments for our internal and external programming and data collection. They are a team of rigorous scientists, designers and program developers responsible for the conception, testing and delivery of our offerings at the intersection of the built and natural environments and human experience. Our research connects our local and federal partners with essential data to shaping the outcomes of healthy, vibrant buildings and communities.

Position Overview

The R+I Technical Project Manager will provide vital technical expertise and support to various programs offered by Southface.

Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform and manage complex resource efficiency audits and reporting (ASHRAE level 2 equivalent)
  • Provide quality assurance oversight and mentorship for energy auditors performing resource efficiency audits and reporting
  • Consult with internal and external clients on sustainability issues related to building systems, performance and occupant behavior
  • Perform energy modeling analysis and reporting for certifications requirements, conceptual design analysis and refinement, research and performance evaluations
  • Perform research and analysis on novel practices and holistically integrated technologies for the built environment and report on the results
  • Energy and water performance monitoring and participant training for programs such as the Atlanta Better Buildings Challenge
  • Design reviews for certification programs, such as LEED and EarthCraft
  • Participate in the development and implementation of new mission based services and programs

Professional Development Opportunities

  • LEED Green Associate and LEED Accredited professional trainings
  • Duct and Envelope Tightness (DET) Verifier training and certification
  • Monitor ENERGY STAR portfolios for data integrity and support energy assessment
  • Internal and external opportunities for professional continuing education

Qualifications

  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree in the fields of mechanical or electrical engineering. A master’s degree is preferred
  • Demonstrated commitment to sustainable environments, resource efficiency, resilience and other similar strategies for improving people’s lives
  • Ability to manage and prioritize project deadlines 
  • Strong organizational skills and rigorous intellect
  • Productively self-directed and proactive
  • Collaborative and positive demeanor
  • Demonstrated commitment to Southface mission
  • Research and technical report writing experience is preferred
  • Experience in conducting and leading resource efficiency assessments and reporting is preferred
  • Field experience in design, construction, retro-commissioning, building controls, and HVAC and/or lighting design is preferred
  • Valid driver’s license is required

Physical Requirements:

  • Performing fieldwork involves extensive navigation in and around construction sites, buildings, attics and sites, as well as climbing ladders 
  • Therefore, an applicant must possess physical dexterity, endurance and balance to safely and effectively accomplish this work
