Position Overview

We are seeking a Sustainability Reporting Manager to be located in our Pasadena, CA office. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated and responsible for completing and expanding Alexandria’s sustainability reporting capabilities. Responsibilities

Essential Duties:

  • Partner with the Head of Sustainability & High Performance Buildings and Chief Development Officer to build out Alexandria’s sustainability and ESG reporting strategy and program
  • Develop and manage the day-to-day sustainability information reporting process, including ongoing collection and analysis of all quantitative and qualitative information
  • Manage sustainability reporting content in financial and non-financial disclosures, on the company website, and for surveys and rating agencies
  • Identify and fill existing gaps in utility data collection processes, in partnership with the Head of Sustainability & High Performance Buildings, and other internal departments, such as Accounts Payable, Financial Reporting, and Regional Asset Management
  • Work with Asset Managers, Real Estate Development Accounting, and Finance to document all sustainability projects, and measure their individual and collective impacts
  • Develop regional and company-wide progress reports, working with Asset Management and Regional Market Directors to establish and track their sustainability goals
  • Work with regional leasing teams and Investor Relations to prepare briefings for presentations

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, finance, real estate, energy, sustainability management, environmental affairs, or related field preferred
  • 5+ years of experience with energy, greenhouse gas, water, and waste data collection and analysis, including reading and working with utility bills. Experience with greenhouse gas accounting, separating data into Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3
  • Extensive experience working with a real estate company, a public company, an NGO, or similar group, in developing and managing environmental accounting and sustainability reporting programs
  • Familiarity with the wide array of relevant company-level sustainability reporting, benchmarking, rating, and awards programs; examples include the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB), the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI), the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB), MSCI, and Sustainalytics
  • Experience helping shape sustainability goals and strategy preferred
  • Experience with utility rate structures and harvesting utility incentives preferred
  • Independent, analytical thinker
  • Ability to work within a diverse, cross-functional team
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to travel up to 50% to Alexandria offices during initial reporting setup phase; 15-25% thereafter
