Position Overview

ERT, Inc.is currently seeking a Marine Habitat Resource Specialist. 

Responsibilities

  • Will coordinate with field personnel and conduct research to obtain information necessary for preparing reports on habitat conservation efforts.
  • Prepare draft reports of HCD field and regional office activities as required by HCD protocols and standards.
  • Collect and compile habitat conservation efforts pertaining to habitat types identified in the Habitat Enterprise Strategic Plan and/or SERO strategic plan; provide data management support including maintenance of records, data collection, analysis and interpretation, and preparation of reports and data visualizations for various audiences.
  • Establish and maintain contacts within consulting programs at federal agencies with existing EFH "findings" agreements with SERO federal agencies, including, preparation of correspondence and arrangement of meetings to initiate new EFH consultation "findings" agreements.
  • Will support the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) Southeast Regional Office (SERO) Habitat Conservation Division (HCD).
  • The focus is on providing scientific policy support to monitor the efficiency and effectiveness of the Essential Fish Habitat (EFH) consultation requirements of the Magnuson-Stevens Act for federal actions in the Southeast U.S.
  • The candidate will assist the NMFS SERO HCD EFH Coordinator by establishing contacts across federal agencies and providing groundwork for reviewing, updating, and entering into new EFH "findings" agreements. 

Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • 1 year experience in the field of marine science and understanding and/or knowledge of National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and the consultation requirements of the Magnuson-Stevens Act.
  • Knowledge of Southeast Region species-related habitats (ocean, nearshore marine, estuarine, or rivers where SERO species occur).
  • Knowledge of the coastal ecology and marine biology of the Gulf of Mexico and South Atlantic and knowledge of aquatic habitat restoration or aquatic habitat impact assessment.
  • Strong communications and organizational skills along with strong professional writing skills in a variety of styles including scientific and plain language and for internal and external customers.
  • Strong research and synthesis skills.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office software suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Google web-based software office suite.
  • Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident and be able to pass a background investigation to obtain a security badge to enter the applicable government facility.ucation:
