Position Overview

The main purpose of the Maintenance Planner/Engineer is to improve plant productivity, safety, reliability, and equipment preservation, by ensuring craftsmen are doing carefully planned and scheduled work, and by supporting the implementation of "Maintenance Excellence" practices and processes.

Position Requirements 

• Through direct planning action and by working with the Procurement Team, and other stakeholders, ensures the Maintenance Department is fully prepared to execute work requests from all sources: scheduled outages, equipment failures, preventative maintenance schedules, etc.
• Reviews and scopes incoming work requests and determines most beneficial job scope, groups together similar work orders when beneficial, and supplies craftsmen with high-quality job instructions, drawings and documentation, pre-staged materials, job duration estimates, etc. Ensures proper administrative and material close-out of jobs.
• Develops and maintains an electronic library of procedures, Job Safety Analyses (JSA’s), checklists, drawings, contractor scopes, etc., that can aid future iterations of same or similar jobs. This library will be made easily transparent and accessible in order to benefit other team members.
• Actively manages the work order backlog, and find occasions to take advantage of windows of opportunity to schedule maintenance jobs, correctly classify and index work orders, report on backlog statistics and other relevant data, correct inaccuracies and duplicate work orders, etc.
• Is a key contributor to an up-to-date asset reliability plan, utilizing industry best practices and compliant with Covanta directives, for all critical plant equipment and select non-critical equipment. It will be designed  to be cost effective to administer when considering safety, environmental, production, and total cost of ownership goals and will consist of the following elements:
  • Spare parts requirements.
  • Preventative, predictive, etc., maintenance (PM) plan, including detailed task procedures.
  • Active or passive phase-out recommendations where appropriate.
  • Curation of master data, of the assets, which is kept up-to-date via closeouts of the company’s Formal Change Notice process and made readily accessible to all relevant employees.
  • Curation of process data, which can and should be trended as part of a Process Parameter Monitoring program, to better measure asset performance issues.
• Works with the Plant Engineer, Maintenance Manager, and other project team members in such a way that new equipment has an asset reliability plan prior to it being commissioned.  Recommends design characteristics which can reduce long-term maintenance costs and/or optimize other desired parameters.  Takes the lead on planning testing requirements and assists the Plant Engineer in the final administrative closeout of new installations and/or major design changes.
• Performs other assignments not listed above related to reliability/safety/excellence, as directed.

Qualifications

• A Bachelors Degree is required.
• Minimum of 5 years experience is required.
