Position Overview

The Global Network Director is part of the Global Leadership Team of FSC, and is responsible for the overall coordination of the FSC International Network. This network is made up of regional offices, national offices, and individuals based around the world. The core responsibilities of this position are to lead the global network in contributing towards FSC’s Strategic Plan and to ensure that FSC operates as a globally aligned organization.

The Global Network Director will be a leader of leaders who thrives on the challenge of aligning the work of diverse people in different environments toward a common goal, skilled at harnessing data whilst also possessing a range of soft skills.

Responsibilities

  • In partnership with the 5 Regional Directors, lead the development of regional approaches and implementation plans, considering carefully the input of members and other stakeholders.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to Regional Directors to meet global and regional needs while improving service delivery and fostering organizational alignment.
  • Drive meaningful quantitative analysis of the performance of the FSC Network.
  • Develop, monitor, and ensure performance against contracts and agreements with FSC network partners. Supervise the establishment of new FSC Network Partners.
  • Oversee and ensure effective management of human resources and finance within the regions.
  • Support the fundraising efforts of FSC National Offices in tandem with FSC’s Investments and Partnerships division.
  • Serve as a conduit for FSC network members to engage with different departments and organizations within FSC as well as with external stakeholders at regional and national levels.
  • Lead and oversee the FSC dispute resolution system and processes, as well as the dispute resolution team.
  • Lead the development and implementation of a global training strategy on FSC programs and policies.
  • Oversee the implementation of internal global communication and information management initiatives that create alignment within the organization’s diverse offices and staff.
  • This position will travel approximately one third of the time.

Qualifications

  • University degree in a relevant field.
  • More than 10 years of professional experience, including a successful record of coordinating distributed international networks.
  • Proven leadership skills in complex multi-cultural and multi-stakeholder institutional development work. Experience leading a sizable team of at least 20 staff, and leading senior managers. Experience managing senior employees from a distance is highly desirable.
  • Fluency with numbers and data and a strong interest in working in a data-driven environment.
  • Experience managing a substantial budget.
  • A passion for people management and performance- and development-oriented leadership, including the ability to resolve disputes, facilitate interactive discussions, and maintain positive interpersonal relations with a multitude of stakeholders.
  • Exceptional communication skills. Must communicate well and convincingly in teams and in writing to a diverse audience.
  • Attachment to FSC’s values and approach, as well as knowledge of FSC’s work and context.
  • Experience and interest in working with politics, particularly international and/or environmental politics, is desirable.
  • The flexibility to deal with ambiguity, shift focus quickly, and synthesize and harmonize apparent contradictions in organizational, managerial, and technical demands.
  • Fluency in English required. Spanish a strong plus. Knowledge of other languages, particularly German or French, is desirable.

Compensation

FSC offers an attractive salary and benefits, including some flexibility in terms of working hours and location. The position will be full time and is located in Bonn, Germany; assistance with relocation costs is available.
