Position Overview

Kleinfelder's Keystone region is seeking a junior-level Wetland/Permitting Professional to join our Cranberry Township (Pittsburgh), PA office or Bridgeport, WV office.

Under the supervision of senior level staff, the successful candidate will assist field teams in the completion of wetland delineations, sampling, inspection, GIS analysis, and provide technical support for a variety of projects primarily in the energy sector (power, oil & gas). The work will involve a combination of office and field work and will include developing permit applications on behalf of clients.

The position may also include assisting other senior biologists in conducting environmental impact assessments, wetland mitigation monitoring, endangered species surveys, habitat assessments, and other permit preparation.

Responsibilities

The ideal candidate should demonstrate:

  • Previous experience conducting wetland delineations in accordance with USACOE and state protocols.
  • Plant identification, wildlife identification, and soils identification is required.
  • Ability to prepare technical documents, perform calculations, and conduct analyses.
  • Ability to use GIS to generate mapping and other project deliverables.
  • Possess excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills with strong problem solving abilities and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of state and federal environmental laws and regulations pertaining to energy projects and other development.
  • Ability to conduct work year round in adverse climate and field conditions.
  • Ability to prioritize effort and effectively be engaged on multiple projects at one time.

Qualifications 

All candidates require:

  • BS in an Environmental, Biological or Ecological Science, or Environmental Policy; Masters in a relevant Biological field of study is a plus.
  • 3 to 6 years of relevant wetland delineation experience in West Virginia and Ohio.
  • Understanding of West Virginia and Ohio Permitting requirements.
  • Ability to work flexible work schedules and availability to meet priority deadlines outside of normal working hours.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% for field work, client meetings, agency coordination activities, etc.
  • A valid driver's license.
  • Experience with Trimble GPS and ArcGIS.
