Description
~ The Center for Environmental Education is a non-residential environmental education program which serves approximately 42,000 students in 36 school districts. ~
During the school year, instruction takes place Monday - Friday at our nature center, local schools or other outreach sites. There will be occasional weekend programs. During the summer, CEE operates a 6-week camp program.
Position Overview & Responsibilities
This individual must work well with students in grades K – 3. Program offerings include: ecosystem studies, sustainability programs, wildlife, team building, history and unique programs such as our Monster Storms and Climate Change and the Earth Portable.
In addition, this position is responsible for animal/birds of prey care, the development of exhibits, maintaining and developing program material and working with a limited number of overnights. Birds of prey training will be provided.
Individual also have some custodial duties as well as rotating weekend facility security duty.
Qualifications
- An undergraduate degree in the environmental/biology field
- Minimum one-year teaching experience in a nature center or residential center setting
- A strong natural science background and an understanding of sustainable systems
Note: Must have a car and must live at facility (work related mileage reimbursed). Must qualify through civil service if/when a test is scheduled. NYSED fingerprint clearance required.
Compensation: Salary is $24,522/year. Benefits include health insurance, paid vacation, and housing in a shared staff house with private bedrooms and on-site laundry.
