Position Overview

The Energy Project Manager (EPM) at Ocean State Job Lot is responsible for identifying, developing, implementing and executing energy/utility projects and initiatives that conserve energy across Ocean State Job Lot (OSJL) properties. The EPM will lead and/or work collaboratively with many different stakeholders to integrate energy management concepts into existing and new facilities, monitor property energy use to identify energy saving initiatives, develop energy reduction and sustainability goals, and ensure the reliability of energy data.

Assigned projects may involve energy efficiency, demand response, procurement, data management, storage and self-generation. The EPM will analyze and report on performance metrics, complete feasibility analysis, evaluate potential savings opportunities in the energy space, and ensure energy payments and bill consolidations are performed. The EPM will work as part of an integrated team to implement energy program requirements and achieve results.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development and execution of a comprehensive energy efficiency strategy.
  • Research and evaluate options, present recommendations, and implement programs for reducing energy usage, related conservation programs, and their related expenses, for all properties, in support of OSJL’s business objectives.
  • Work with and/or lead varied stakeholders to develop, coordinate, and implement strategies to integrate energy management strategies and projects at Ocean State Job Lot’s properties.
  • Provide expertise around mechanical systems, building management systems, and energy efficient systems and equipment.
  • Lead the charge for OSJL’s initiative towards renewable and sustainable energy.
  • Use analytical tools to evaluate the performance of, and make recommendations for energy systems and equipment. Prepare written analysis of findings and recommendations for various energy-related solutions.
  • Provide oversight and execution of utility payments, and bill consolidations through Ecova.
  • Assure metering and submetering needs of the owned and leased properties are met.
  • Manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
  • Interface with Utility, Energy, Power and other federal, town and state companies or organizations
  • Build relationships with external suppliers and partners, and with internal stakeholders.
  • Manage projects and objectives to ensure obligations are met and assuring the potential cost savings goals.
  • Oversee ongoing review of Energy Management Software Systems and Facilities to identify cost reducing measures from implementation of energy efficiency initiatives by utility service providers.
  • Plan, organize and direct utility management programs.
  • Develop and manage annual utility budget for the company.
  • Develop utility management measures as it relates to the corporate and satellite retail properties. Inclusive of HVAC; EMS Systems; Lighting; efficient Irrigation practices etc.
  • Utilize Energy and Facility CMMS systems to study and analyze utilization of utilities. Maintain reporting and databases for facility and ancillary properties. Prepare reports relating to utility management operation and program performance. Regularly disseminate reports as directed.
  • Provide staff training and conduct regular inspections of all properties as necessary.
  • Perform facility plant equipment asset management budgeting and replacing.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or related area. Advanced degree (MBA, MS) preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience working in energy efficiency/management.
  • 8+ years experience in project management.
  • Proven success in improving utility usage efficiencies and concepts related to property and satellite retail operations.
  • Strong knowledge of demand-side energy analytics and management (e.g., building operations, building management systems, self-generation, etc.).
  • Strong background and knowledge of commercial skill set to analyze and review utility tariffs and power contracts.
  • Proficiency in energy and building management systems.
  • Ability to interpret, analyze, and help build project financial models.
  • Energy auditing or commissioning experience.
  • Knowledge of data collection and analysis methods, with practice in Measurement and Verification (M&V) Techniques.
  • Knowledge of multinational energy markets.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Certification as either a CEM (certified energy manager) or CEP (certified energy procurement professional) may be substituted for 2 years of desired professional experience.
  • Managerial experience with increasing responsibility and demonstrated success.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with all levels of management; facility professionals; contractors; vendors and regulatory agencies.
  • Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint and reading plans/blueprints, read and interpret engineering drawings required.
