~ La Plata Open Space Conservancy (LPOSC) is the Durango, Colorado-based, nonprofit land trust serving southwest Colorado. Since 1992, LPOSC has partnered with approximately 200 landowners and city governments to permanently protect nearly 30,000 acres of land. ~

LPOSC’s mission is to permanently protect open lands that have significant agricultural, wildlife habitat, open space, recreational and/or historical/archaeological resources, for the benefit of the community and the general public.

Position Overview

LPOSC is hiring a full-time Development Director to work at our Durango office, in collaboration with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to develop and implement outreach and fundraising strategies to accomplish annual revenue and program goals.

The ideal candidate is experienced in fundraising, with a portfolio of experience demonstrating successful activities and campaigns cultivating donor relationships, securing major philanthropic contributions, coordinating public events, securing grant funding, and bringing enthusiasm and creativity to this aspect of the organization.

Responsibitlites 

  • Establish an annual development and fundraising plan and execute program activities which will include: major donor program, “Friends of Open Space” program, annual appeal letters, new member appeals, online fundraising, corporate support, and social media presence.
  • Develop and implement a strategic outreach and communications plan, focusing on effective marketing of LPOSC and our mission. Lead and manage all aspects of plan.
  • Utilize Salesforce database and other tools to drive membership growth, and build board and donor relationships.
  • Produce and manage content for website, annual reports, social media, regular eBlasts, and other communications.
  • Manage primary annual events: Snowdown Wine & Craft Spirits Tasting and Auction, Short Film Event, Appreciation Picnic, and outreach booths. Broaden support for these and other events and increase income.
  • Develop and manage a planned giving program.
  • Identify and prepare applications for community beneficiary programs and grant funding.

Qualifications

Required Education & Experience:

  • Degree in marketing, communications or other similar field; and
  • At least 2 years of professional experience; or
  • At least 5 years of related professional experience.

Desired Qualifications: 

  • Passion for our mission, including a true understanding of private land conservation and the ability to articulate LPOSC’s work clearly in written and oral formats.
  • Demonstrated ability to be creative, take initiative, and be strategic to prioritize workload, meet tight deadlines, and achieve goals.
  • Management and administrative skills to organize, direct, and motivate staff, board, and volunteers.
  • Demonstrated successful fundraising and event planning experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, Photoshop Elements, WordPress, and SalesForce.
  • Flexibility and willingness to support and contribute to organizational tasks requiring full staff cooperation.

Compensation & Benefits 

  • Starting salary range of $40,000 – $50,000, experience dependent.
  • Contribution to Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Group Health Plan.
  • 13 days annual paid time off (PTO) and eight paid holidays.
