Position Overview
This is an outstanding opportunity for an innovative thought leader in the areas of environmental quality, economic vitality, and social equity to champion Boulder's efforts in sustainability throughout the City organization and the community.
Responsibilities
- Reporting to the Director of Planning, Housing, and Sustainability, the Chief Sustainability Officer provides leadership and vision to enhance integration and coordination on sustainability efforts throughout the organization and the community.
- The Chief Sustainability Officer is responsible for executing comprehensive sustainability programs in the areas of social, economic and environment while emphasizing a problem-solving orientation, effective communication, focus on continuous improvement, and effective, efficient and accountable service to internal work groups, other city departments, and external partners.
- The Chief Sustainability Officer leads a team of 12.30 FTE employees and an operating budget of approximately $3.26 million.
- Direct reports to the Chief Sustainability Officer include the Energy Services Manager and Zero Waste Manager.
Qualifications
- A Master's degree in a related field, such as sustainability, public administration, or business;
- A minimum of 8 years of increasingly responsible experience in sustainability; and/or
- Equivalent education and experience are required.

Compensation
Annual salary range: $97,822 to $149,136; negotiable depending on qualifications.
