Position Overview

The internship is at the Auwahi Wind Energy (AWE) facility within Sempra Renewables. The intern will work with all the personnel at the wind facility, focusing mainly with the Environmental and Operations & Maintenance departments. The goal of this internship in Auwahi is to apply knowledge acquired in the classroom to real-world situations, as well as gain the skills and experience that is necessary to prepare for a successful career in environmental science or technology.

Responsibilities

Environmental:

  • Support offsite mitigation effort including seabird nest monitoring, set- up/implementation of predator control, and reforestation efforts.
  • Provide support at the Auwahi Wind facility by conducting fatality searches following established protocols and reporting requirements.
  • Provide support for data entry, protocol development, and inventory control.
  • Support Ulupalakua Ranch personnel with their daily activities.

O&M:

  • Provide support in certain daily activities such as inspections, log readings, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Assist with special projects.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Current student of at least sophomore status in good standing with the university and a minimum of a 3.0 GPA (4.0 scale).

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel is highly desirable.
  • Physically able to perform outdoor activities such as hiking mountainous areas, light lifting, small tree planting, etc. for a full day.
