Position Overview 

BSR's HERproject is a collaborative initiative that strives to empower low-income women working in global supply chains. Bringing together global brands, their suppliers, and local NGOs, HERproject drives impact for women and business via workplace-based interventions on health, financial inclusion, and gender equality. Since its inception in 2007, HERproject has worked in more than 420 workplaces across 14 countries and has increased the well-being, confidence, and economic potential of more than 500,000 women.

The Associate will be key to the successful implementation and growth of HERproject, working with a dynamic, global team. The Associate will be responsible for supporting implementation of HERproject activities in one or more of the HERproject implementation countries, which involves developing and maintaining strong and positive relationships with local partners, companies, industry associations, donors, and other key stakeholders.

Supervised by one of the global HERproject managers based in Paris, the Associate will actively contribute to global HERproject team efforts around reporting, learning, research and analysis, resource mobilization, and logistics planning. The Associate will also contribute to BSR's broader work on women's empowerment.

BSR is seeking an energetic, entrepreneurial individual with a relevant background and a passion for leveraging business to promote social justice and sustainability. Previous experience and significant interest in women's empowerment, health and financial inclusion; ending gender-based violence; and/or global supply chains is highly preferred.

The position is full-time on a 12/18M contract with possibility for extension/renewal.

It is based in Paris with extensive overseas travel of up to 30 percent.

Responsibilities

  • Program implementation and support: The Associate will be responsible for supporting implementation of program activities in East Africa or Asia, and working with our corporate, NGO, and research partners in the region. The Associate should be ready to travel frequently on weeklong or longer trips to the region, often on his/her own, and should expect travel up to 30 percent of total work time.
  • Monitoring, evaluation, and learning: The Associate will be responsible for supporting the monitoring and evaluation practices associated with the program, including capturing, analyzing, and disseminating program learnings.
  • Stakeholder engagement and advocacy: The Associate will support in conducting research and local outreach, and in managing existing and new stakeholder and partner relationships. In addition, the associate will support engagement with multinational companies and global supply chain sustainability initiatives.
  • Communications and events: The Associate will support planning and execution of local events as relevant. The Associate will be encouraged to contribute to communications activities via blogs, etc.
  • Other responsibilities: The Associate may also be expected at times to contribute to other areas of work based on availability and BSR need.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree is required. Masters' degree preferred.
  • EU Work Authorization is required.
  • Minimum 3 years' relevant work experience, preferably in international development and/or responsible business. Experience working in a public-private partnership environment desirable.
  • Knowledge of, or experience in, supply chain issues, women's empowerment and gender equality.
  • Exceptional research and writing skills in English, and ability to do some preliminary analysis on CSR research.
  • Practical field experience working and/or living abroad in a middle- or low-income country or countries strongly preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to meet stringent deadlines, communicate progress on projects or event planning, and work with managers/directors to coordinate multiple projects concurrently.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for working with both internal and external clients.
  • High degree of self-control and self-motivation toward excellent deliverables and strong interests on CSR issues and role of business in creating a just and sustainable world.
  • Capacity to work and thrive in a growing, fast-paced, entrepreneurial organization with a collaborative environment.
  • High ethical standards and commitment to BSR core values of leadership, respect, and integrity.
