We work with local governments, communities, landowners and other stakeholders to deploy clean energy in an environmentally responsible and sustainable manner. We operate 399 MW of wind in Montana and are actively developing sites in Alberta, Canada.

Position Overview

NaturEner is currently seeking an experienced Head of Analytics, Wind Energy to work in our San Francisco, California office. Responsible for overseeing the development and evolution of operational analytics to support and drive innovation and optimization for NaturEner’s energy forecasting, next generation grid integration and reliability solutions, and NaturEner’s Operating Center, which includes two Wind-Only Balancing Authorities.

Also responsible for maintaining, monitoring, and evolving reporting on all wind farm data including SCADA data, energy losses, and interconnection data; and for implementing new metrics and KPIs across the Company including generation, Operator efficiencies, and turbine performance monitoring through the development of automation and productization of operational analytics. The Head of Analytics, Wind Energy will be key to progressing systems and automation in real time operations and predictive analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and evolve NaturEner’s computational model of hourly commercial operations of a generation portfolio including energy losses and Balancing Authority requirements
  • Assess outcomes and sensitivities of different scenarios and portfolios on operating model, analyze the existing systems, and highlight areas of improvement
  • Lead analysis and projects to evaluate or implement next generation improvement opportunities in Balancing Authority Automation, Energy Loss Monitoring and Generation Forecasting
  • Manage NaturEner’s Operations & Maintenance Model for long-term forecasting and business projections
  • Monitor and report on performance of energy forecasting tools and vendors
  • Analyze and decompose complex business needs into advanced analytics
  • Monitor performance, discover deviations and variances, and propose necessary actions
  • Generate, maintain, and provide data sets and analysis related to commercial development of generating assets for internal and external entities
  • Be an authority in area of grid operations and wind farm optimization
  • Maintain knowledge of industry best practices, and commercial and operational opportunities to improve performance
  • Work with Asset Management team to identify critical reports and processes that could be improved and automated, perform gap analysis and recommend solutions
  • Manage the development and implementation of business rules with the objective to reduce workload, improve decision quality, ensure regulatory and legal compliance, and cut costs
  • Manage routine availability, energy, and performance reporting
  • Build reports, develop Business Intelligence (BI) tools, and perform ad hoc analyses
  • Perform other duties as required

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Analytics, Engineering, Computer Science or related field is required; Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science or Statistics preferred
  • 5+ years of wind energy experience in data analytics, data visualization and/or data science
  • Deep experience with various analytics applications including PI and SCADA communication and architecture
  • Deep experience with SQL server reporting and information services (SSRS, SSIS) a plus; Python would be helpful
  • Experience with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning

Skills/Abilities:

  • Must have strong SQL skills
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and sound decision-making abilities
  • Ability to create and automate monthly reports and wind energy analytics
  • Ability to recognize complex problems and create and implement efficient solutions to resolve them
  • Ability to effectively communicate plans/results to division management and to executives
  • Ability to understand engineering documents such as resource assessment reports and AutoCAD drawings
  • Ability to understand department/function mission and strategy
  • Ability to understand division level strategies, business plans, and cross-divisional strategies
  • Ability to effectively utilize group dynamics in project, program, or division settings
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with IT, Operations, and Asset Management teams
  • Ability to understand and apply the latest technologies
  • Ability to identify and communicate effective business process outputs and solutions

Location/Working Conditions:

  • Position is located in San Francisco, California
  • Works in a typical office environment
  • Travel < 10%

Physical requirements:

  • Required to use a computer for extended periods of time
  • Requires ability to occasionally perform physical activities including standing, walking, kneeling, twisting, reaching, and climbing in order to install or inspect equipment
