Position Overview

CALYX Engineers and Consultants is seeking a junior environmental scientist for our Cary, NC office. The environmental scientist will provide assistance to project managers, engineers and scientists with wetland delineations, protected species surveys, data interpretation, technical report writing and planning for the environmental services group.

Responsibilities

The most frequent and essential work activities include:

  • Responsible for task management.
  • Conduct field investigations and data interpretation.
  • Provide technical report writing.
  • Complete project tasks within deadlines and budgets.

Qualifications

Prerequisites for employment include:

  • BS degree in biology, botany, ecology, wildlife or similar field.
  • 2-4 years of experience with natural resource related projects.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with stream and wetland delineations and assessments.
  • Writing skills and ability to interpret and present field data in technical reports.
  • Experience and positive relationships with regulatory agencies.
  • Proficient knowledge with Microsoft Office programs.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with Trimble GPS, Microstation/GeoPak and GIS.
  • Willingness to travel for consecutive days/nights.
  • NCDOT experience a plus.
