Position Overview

Horizon Water and Environment (Horizon) is seeking to hire a Biologist, or Ecologist, or Wetland Scientist, or some combination of these qualifications for our Oakland, California office. Responsibilities may include site assessments, leading environmental compliance and permitting efforts, biological monitoring for construction, and writing a variety of reports and planning documents.

Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate will have at least 3-5 years consulting experience in environmental compliance (CWA, ESA/CESA, CEQA) and northern California flora/fauna surveys.
  • General requirements for this position include a strong educational background in a relevant environmental or biological science; an advanced degree is preferable.
  • Candidates should have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be able to write complex technical documents and communicate well with clients and project stakeholders.
  • Candidates should be comfortable with quantitative analysis and familiar with analyzing and working with different types of environmental data.

Desirable skills include:

  • Wetland delineation training and experience.
  • Plant taxonomy/Botany.
  • Construction monitoring experience including avian surveys.
  • ESA section 10 (a)(1)(A) recovery permits.
  • General understanding of hydrology and geomorphology as they apply to natural resource management and restoration.
  • GIS/graphic design skills.
  • Experience in developing successful work proposals, scopes-of-work, and project budgets.
