Description
~ St. Christopher is run by the Diocese of South Carolina and is located 25 miles south of Charleston on Seabrook Island. ~
The campus includes nearly one mile of beach, 100 acres of salt marsh, 200 acres of undisturbed maritime forest, two freshwater ponds, and a freshwater swamp. The year will provide an opportunity to not only gain valuable environmental education experience, but also learn how to be a minister through all walks of life.
Our program is a high quality residential environmental education center that draws over 9000 school students a year, and provides classes that are student-centered, inquiry based classes that line up with state and nextgen science standards.
Position Overview
St. Christopher Camp and Conference Center is seeking 3 more committed Christian Naturalists this school year to join our team of educators working in the Barrier Island Environmental Education Program.
Position Duration:
August 14, 2017 – May 19, 2018 (estimated dates).
Responsibilities
- Instruction in day and evening programs on beach, forest and wetland ecology, astronomy, tracking, birding, orienteering, and leading team-building challenge courses.
- Serve with Housekeeping staff one morning each week to help maintain the center.
- Assist in animal care, and other programs and campus upkeep as assigned.
- Time off is provided each week.
- Additionally, there may be opportunities for weekend work with other programs and guests, for additional pay ($20/hr).
- Weekly attendance to the staff bible study, prayer and worship meetings is required.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent further education and experience is required.
- A focus in education or biology/environmental science related fields is preferred, but not necessary.
- Teaching interest and ability with elementary and middle school aged students and a strong committed love for Jesus is of utmost importance.
Compensation: $285/week living stipend plus individual room in staff house (less than 200ft from beach), all utilities, food, wifi and cable provided.
