We strive to provide VCU faculty, staff and students with space to grow their own food and flowers through our MCV Community Garden.  At our new Monroe Park Campus Learning Garden, we are also actively engaged in working with the VCU and Richmond communities to increase access to healthy food as well as education around how healthy food can be grown and prepared.

Position Overview

We are seeking candidates for the position of Sustainability Projects and Program Coordinator. The role title for this job is "Program Admin Spec I." This position works at the Monroe Park Campus, 40 hours per week, 8:00am-5:00pm, Monday through Friday.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively engage students, faculty and staff through sustainability programs that achieve measurable improvements.
  • Actively participate in existing and new events throughout the year to educate the VCU community on sustainability initiatives.
  • Provide support to the Operations subcommittee by encouraging creative input of ideas and feedback on programs and projects. Collaborate with and provide support to sustainability subcommittees to achieve common goals and action items.
  • Conduct thorough research on new and emerging technology and trends that are aligned with University sustainability goals.
  • Continue to maintain a high level of professionalism in both written and oral communication, on an ongoing basis.
  • Continue to expand on existing sustainability knowledge through various professional development opportunities.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Knowledge of the American Colleges and Universities Presidents Climate Commitment (ACUPCC) and the requirements for sustainability and recycling programs;
  • Knowledge of the VCU Climate Action Plan (completed May 15, 2010) and VCU sustainability initiatives;
  • Knowledge of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) programs;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel (including graphing) and Power Point, and an ability to learn specific software applications as needed;
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively speak in front of faculty, staff and student groups;
  • Be a team player able to work comfortably and effectively in cross-functional teams with students, faculty and administrators from the various schools and departments;
  • Be highly organized and have strong project planning and management skills as well as technical and administrative problem solving skills;
  • Have the ability to self-motivate, multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment with various deadlines; and
  • Valid Virginia drivers license.

Preferred:

  • College degree preferred.
  • LEED Green Associates Certification preferred.
  • Experience in sustainability practices and working in an institutional recycling program.
  • Experience with the use of PC for the creation of Word documents, Excel spreadsheets and PowerPoint presentations.
  • Experience with the use of social media to enhance communications among diverse groups in an academic climate, especially with VCU students.

Compensation: Anticipated Hiring Range is $38,000 - $42,000.
