Position Overview

Under the general direction of the Supervisor, Operations, and the Lead Technician, and in accordance with applicable policies and procedures, the Wind Technician is responsible for hands-on troubleshooting, maintenance, repair and operation of wind turbine/generator systems, high voltage systems, and related equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of wind turbines and associated equipment;
  • Monitor construction activities to ensure design, specifications, and contracts are followed and that work is done in accordance with the contract drawings, specifications, regulatory requirements and within budget;
  • Prepare job planning documentation working closely with project stakeholders and recommend changes in the work plan if efficiencies in work practices can be improved;
  • Monitor critical medium and high risk activities when being performed including but not limited to: gravity, electrical and mechanical hazards such as excavations, lifts, diving operations, core drilling, system activation and switching, and system testing and commissioning;
  • Prepare and submit construction reports, reporting on health & safety, environmental, and construction progress;
  • Recommend corrective courses of action to management as issues arise;
  • Practice safe work habits and follow correct safety policies and procedures. Immediately act upon incorrect procedures when witnessed and, if necessary, stop the work or procedure;
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable, regulatory licenses, permits, and codes of operation and conduct;
  • Identify, operate and repair, as necessary, hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems including analytical problem solving/troubleshooting;
  • Monitor and report on equipment quality issues per factory requirements and Brookfield specifications from disassembly to commissioning;
  • Perform station, unit operations and preventive maintenance tasks as required.
  • Identify, operate and troubleshoot complicated mechanical and electrical problems on variable pitch, variable speed wind turbines;
  • Actively participate in corporate training programs as well as corporate safety and environmental programs;
  • Work collaboratively with all team members to meet corporate targets and goals in: safety, environment, equipment reliability and energy production performance;
  • Provide planning support services for the maintenance team and provide assistance in parts and inventory management; and
  • Be available, as necessary, for after hour “call-ins”.

Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • Familiar with industrial hydraulic systems, power train and electrical systems;
  • Ability to climb multiple 90m (300 ft) towers on a daily basis;
  • Desire to learn and take on new challenges;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; and
  • Ability to read and understand electrical, hydraulic and mechanical drawings and schematics.

Required Experience:

  • 1 - 4 year degree in E.E. or E.E. T. or related field (or equivalent experience);
  • Experience with repair and maintenance of wind turbine/generator systems and related equipment is preferred as follows: electrical, mechanical, hydraulic as well as PLC programming and troubleshooting skills and ability to perform related essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation;
  • Hold a valid US Drivers License;
  • Knowledge of Windows based software including Outlook, Excel, Word and Access; and
  • Experience with related mechanical and electrical OSHA safety standards.
