Associated Renewable is seeking a Senior PE mechanical energy engineer who will join the firm as an owner and equity partner and not just as an employee. The role is a combined senior engineering and management role.

Responsibilities

  • Work as part of management team to develop & fine tune firms energy engineering services offerings.
  • Manage engineering team & be primary lead on mechanical energy engineering design.
  • Act as a senior technical resource to the sales and finance teams responsible for identifying and understanding the energy and mechanical related issues within a client’s facility.
  • Liase with clients and discuss building system energy performance including HVAC, building controls, plant equipment & lighting.
  • Conduct & write ASHRAE Level 1,2 & 3 on various property types includes commercial offices, large multi-family residential properties, industrial facilities, hotels, health care facilities, warehouse & storage.
  • Complete Energy Conservation Measure (ECM) energy calculations, savings projections and ECM narrative descriptions.
  • Perform energy feasibility studies for energy efficiency projects, including preliminary design, review of project electrical and mechanical requirements, cost estimates, project savings and overall life-cycle cost analysis
  • Review and verify technical merits of customer and energy efficiency applications, including calculation of energy savings and verification of equipment specifications.
  • Energy modelling using eQUEST, Treat & other energy audit software.
  • Technical execution of various projects related to energy system design, bidding, and construction for building solutions.
  • Customer site inspections to verify the installation of energy efficient & renewable equipment.
  • Work closely with customers to improve the reliability and efficiency of their utility systems such as boilers, chillers, cooling towers and pumping stations.
  • Perform the design development and assist in providing technical direction to the scope of projects; providing senior-level technical expertise on all project aspects associated with conceptual engineering, detailed engineering designs, and preparation of contracts for construction.
  • Create and manage product development project plans. Identify inputs and communicate with stakeholders, drive activity to the project schedule.
  • Develop an understanding of the market, visit customers to define customer needs and requirements.
  • Collaborate with internal and external resources to transfer design from engineering to production.
  • Participate in the creation and communication of project plans, tasks and deliverables.
  • Manage your time to meet project deadlines. This includes reporting pertinent information clearly in oral and written form.
  • Conduct energy audits in conformance with recognized industry standards.
  • Data evaluation and interpretation.
  • Site surveying of mechanical, energy management systems, electrical systems, lighting, water and building envelope including doors, windows, insulation, roofing etc.)
  • Assistance identifying energy efficiency projects, their estimated cost, estimated energy savings, and estimated return on investment for clients.
  • Prepare schematic design documents and specifications including scopes of work
  • Perform energy conservation inspection, plans and examination.
  • Reviewing facility's operations and systems and providing recommendations on how to achieve energy efficiency goals.
    Gathering, collecting and recording essential building energy data.
  • Review of engineering design drawings, specifications and reports to validate energy savings.
  • Perform in field inspections to verify installation of energy efficiency measures.
  • Perform engineering calculations for high efficiency HVAC equipment, motors, controls, compressors, and lighting systems to determine energy savings compared to baseline equipment and or building codes.
  • Complete preliminary and authorization level engineering studies including detailed scope and capital cost estimates.
  • Troubleshooting problems project implementations
  • Technical presentations in front of clients and potential clients.
  • Conduct internal and external training and knowledge transfer.

Qualifications

  • PE (Professional Engineer) with 10+ years in an Energy or Mechanical engineering position. 
  • Masters or PHD in energy management preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Energy Engineering.
  • Active New York PE license (multi-state preferred).
  • Certified Energy Auditor (CEA) or Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certification desirable. 
  • Ability to analyze multiple industrial systems to determine baseline energy use compared to energy saving measure.
  • Knowledge of technical information about the newest and most energy-efficient technologies.
  • Building energy simulation modeling.
  • Understanding of applicable Building Codes and Construction Standards.
  • Assist in preparation of, and participation in large and small group presentations.
  • Good technical writing and verbal communication skills. 
  • Position is highly visible to potential customers and requires the ability to influence and persuade.
