Position Overview

Natural Resource Technology, an OBG Company (NRT) is seeking a full-time Environmental Technician. This position offers the opportunity to learn a wide variety of environmental sampling techniques while working with dedicated and experienced staff.

Successful candidate will primarily work on groundwater monitoring projects, including the collection of groundwater samples on a quarterly and annual basis from monitoring wells at industrial, landfill, hazardous waste, commercial, rural, and urban facilities.

This position requires frequent overnight domestic travel, primarily in the Midwest, and most the work sites are outside 80 to 100% of the typical workweek. Travel schedules vary weekly based on project needs. Typical workweeks are 40 to 50 hours, Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend hours.

Responsibilities

  • Implementation of NRT, client, contractor, and site health and safety programs and procedures
  • Groundwater sample collection in strict accordance with standard operating procedures
  • Field data collection; perform calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and minor repair of field equipment
  • Aquifer testing, well development, and well maintenance
  • Operate light and heavy equipment (e.g., pumps, vacuum, equipment, generators, ATVs, boats)
  • Operate large trucks and trailering equipment (CDL not required)
  • Remediation system performance monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimization
  • Detailed documentation of field activities, preparation of daily reports and site status updates, including performance of basic calculations and Excel data entry
  • Additional responsibilities may include:
    • Construction oversight and documentation
    • Collection of media samples (e.g., soil, sediment, solidification material)
    • Subcontractor oversight
    • Site inspections
    • Air monitoring

Qualifications

  • Associates or Bachelor's degree, or 1-3 years of experience in an environmental field; certifications a plus (e.g., asbestos, lead, wastewater, WisDOT, IDOT); experience in surveying, construction oversight, Phase I and Phase II site analysis, wetland assessment, laboratory analysis, or related field a plus
  • Efficiently manage multiple demands, priorities, and deadlines. Ability to work within a team structure, good communication skills with individual team members and project managers
  • Ability to work with hand tools, basic mechanical skills, follow basic troubleshooting instructions for field equipment (e.g., pumps, generators, ATVs, motor vehicles)
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull 50 pounds across uneven terrain and in/out of motor vehicles, carts, and ATVs
  • Ability to attain and/or have a current 40 Hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification

Work Environment:

  • Must be able to traverse rough terrain (e.g., construction sites, undeveloped rural and urban properties, wetlands, waterways, landfills) and work in extreme cold and heat (predominately in the Midwest).
  • Noise levels can be high when working at or near construction sites and operating generators.
  • Close, distance, and color vision are routinely used for these positions.
  • While performing essential duties, staff are regularly required to stand, walk, use hands, talk, and hear.
  • Staff are frequently required to sit, drive, reach with hands and arms, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch.
  • Staff are occasionally required to smell.

Employment:

  • Offer contingent on successful completion of medical exam in accordance with OSHA hazardous waste operations, background screen, insurance underwriting for vehicle operation (e.g., good driving record), drug screen, and verification of valid driver license, education, certification, and experience.

Compensation: $16-18 per hour /commensurate with experience.
