ULI district councils deliver the Institute’s mission at the local level by providing members with education, networking, and opportunities to give back to the community. With 2,300 members across the Bay Area, ULI San Francisco represents one of ULI’s largest district councils. Position Overview

The Senior Associate’s overall responsibility is to coordinate and facilitate the district council’s goals and objectives. The Senior Associate serves as an informed resource for a variety of district council initiatives supporting the Institute’s policies and procedures and ensures that ULI San Francisco’s goals and objectives are met.

The Senior Associate works closely with the Executive Director and Director as well as with other members of the ULI San Francisco staff. The Senior Associate must be a hardworking, proactive, and innovative person with good knowledge of ULI’s core issues and those policies and practices of highest interest to our members.

Responsibilities

Technical Advisory Panels (TAPs) Support:

  • Provide support for the TAPs Committee.
  • Coordinate quarterly TAPs Committee meetings.
  • Develop marketing and outreach to potential cities and city managers.
  • Determine potential TAP participants, including outreach to high-level professionals and coordination of event materials.
  • Plan and coordinate event logistics with outside vendors for event space, audiovisual, food and beverages, and more.
  • Support 2-3 TAPs annually.

UrbanPlan Support:

  • Support the UrbanPlan Committee and ULIsf’s UrbanPlan Coordinator to support delivery of the UrbanPlan curriculum to high schools and universities in the Bay Area.
  • Coordinate quarterly UrbanPlan Committee meetings.
  • Coordinate School Champions Luncheons and full-day UrbanPlan volunteer trainings.
  • Plan and coordinate event logistics with outside vendors for event space, audiovisual, food and beverages, and more.
  • Assist in recruiting 10-15 trained ULI volunteers to assist in the classroom as facilitators and city council jury members.

Development Training with City Staff and Policy & Practice Committee:

  • City Training Lead:
    • Manage and coordinate planning and logistics for development training with city staff. This program is designed to increase local government staff’s understanding of real estate development, enabling them to work more effectively with developers to build thriving communities.
  • Policy & Practice Committee Support:
    • Support the Executive Director and Director in current efforts to bring more clarity and organizational structure to the area of Policy & Practice.
    • Coordinate correspondence to members of subcommittees within Policy & Practice: Sustainable Development and Housing.
    • Support projects, programs, and initiatives undertaken by the Policy & Practice committee and subcommittees.
    • Track expenses and monitor budgetary performance of committee.
    • Work with cochairs and subcommittee cochairs to schedule committee meetings, create agendas, and update work plans.

Additional Information

Programs Committee Support:

This is the district council’s largest committee and is responsible for planning a large number of programs annually. While the Director will have primary responsibility for this committee, she will require significant support from other district council staff members. The Senior Associate will likely be assigned to manage and execute selected programs throughout the year. The Senior Associate may be asked to draft blog posts to summarize programs and their outcomes, which will then be posted on ULIsf’s website.

Sustainability Committee Lead:

The mission of the Sustainability Committee is to foster private sector development practices, ongoing building operations, and public sector decision making that result in an environmentally, socially, and economically sound built environment in the San Francisco Bay area. The Senior Associate will be the lead ULI staff member in managing this committee.

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Manage and coordinate all correspondence with committee members.
  • Work with cochairs and subcommittee cochairs to schedule committee meetings, create agendas, and update work plans.
  • Manage all projects, programs, and initiatives undertaken by the committee.
  • Ensure that rosters and contact information for committees and subcommittees are accurate and up to date.
  • Track expenses and monitor budgetary performance of committee.
  • Work with committee cochairs to oversee scope of work and track progress of initiatives and projects.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of related experience.
  • BA/BS degree.
  • Professional oral and written communication skills.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills to work with senior executives in the private and public sectors.
  • Strong initiative—ability to initiate tasks and assume responsibility for them, and to work with minimal supervision in a high-production setting.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, handle multiple tasks concurrently and completely, and complete tasks on time with responsible follow-through.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Experience in program and/or event planning.
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook); knowledge of Photoshop or graphic design skills, a plus.
  • Experience working with and managing volunteers.
  • Ability to attend early-morning and evening events and lift 30 pounds is required.
