Position Overview

Under the direct supervision of a Senior Environmental Specialist, the Environmental Assistant is responsible for implementing environmental ordinances, assisting in data analysis and report writing, implementing environmental programs required by federal, state and local environmental laws and regulations, and assisting program managers in projects and programs.

Responsibilities

  • The successful candidate will be responsible for providing program staff support to the Urban Forestry Council and committees and assisting in implementing the City’s Green Purchasing Program and Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs.
  • Additional responsibilities may include representing SF Environment at community meetings and public hearings, coordinating annual community events, delivering presentations on green purchasing, IPM, urban forestry, or related topics and maintaining and analyzing data sets in spreadsheets or databases in support of other activities.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in forestry, urban forestry, public administration, or other relevant field.
  • Friendly and positive demeanor.
  • Openness and sensitivity to the needs of diverse audiences.
  • Documented success in convening collaborative problem solving processes.
  • Conflict management skills.
  • Experience working in government developing and implementing public policy.
  • Familiarity with toxics reduction, environmentally preferable purchasing, sustainable landscape management, and survey techniques.
  • Documented skills in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Google Docs.
  • Fluency in Spanish or Cantonese.

Compensation: $30.38 - $36.91/hour; $5,265.00 - $6,398.00/month; $63,180.00 - $76,778.00/year.
