Position Overview

The Land & Facilities Residential Position is required to reside on grounds and is responsible for all operational needs of the organization throughout the calendar year.  These duties consist of but are not limited to: Facilities and trail maintenance, medical emergencies, weather emergencies, security, land management and custodial duties. 

Responsibilities

This position is a key member of the Land & Facilities Department and will report to the Director of Land & Facilities. This position holds responsibility for the following:

  • Performs duties on all matters and priorities of the Land and Facilities Department of Hawk Mountain Sanctuary.
  • Supervise, conduct, and assist full time and part-time staff, volunteers, and interns on sanctuary projects and functions.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Resource Management, Parks and Recreation, or related field with 2 years/seasons of experience and/or a minimum of 5 years of experience in park/refuge management.
  • Wilderness First Responder or higher level of emergency medical training preferred and/or the willingness to receive training and provide emergency care.
  • Must posses a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to perform the physical labor required for all aspects of the position including the ability to carry a 50 lb. backpack in adverse conditions for 5 miles and be able to perform various job responsibilities in inclement weather.
  • 2 years of general maintenance experience including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and masonry.
  • Experienced in supervising and conducting trail building and maintenance in forested landscapes.
  • Proficient in the operation of hand and power tools, chainsaws, mowers, string trimmers, manual transmission vehicles, 4X4 trucks and tractors.
  • A willingness to perform Best Management Practices (BMP) related to invasive species control.  Pesticide Applicators license preferred or the ability and willingness to receive license.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and written.
  • Possess skills to effectively interact and educate the public on Sanctuary mission.
  • A basic knowledge of Northeast flora and fauna.
  • Must be able to work and collaborate in a team environment.
  • Must be available on scheduled weekends and holidays.
  • The ability to perform in an environment of changing workloads and priorities.

Compensation: $25-$30,000 plus benefits and housing

Additional Information

This is considered a conservation professional position. All serious applicants will be considered but please do not apply if you do not possess any of the minimum qualifications. The residence currently available is a modern three room cottage that is located on the property. There is no cost to individual for housing since it is a requirement of the position.
