Description

~ At the Grand Canyon Trust, our work is more than just a job. Our work is driven by the sustainable vision we have for the future of the Colorado Plateau and the health and well-being of the people who live here and rely upon it. ~

With so much riding on our success and the success of entities we work alongside or strive to support, our ability to operate with determination, integrity, creativity, and a strong sense of teamwork is of the utmost importance.

Position Overview

The energy program associate works with the energy program director to further the mission of the Grand Canyon Trust as it relates to energy issues. Existing areas of focus include preventing uranium mining near the Grand Canyon, forcing proper cleanup of uranium mines and mills across the Colorado Plateau, and strengthening controls on fugitive methane emissions, venting, and flaring at oil and gas production sites. Potential other areas of focus include preventing oil and gas development in areas of particular significance, facilitating a Just Transition to safe and sustainable energy sources, and preventing development of new extreme, carbon-intensive, and unnecessary energy sources such as oil shale and tar sands.

The energy program associate will learn issues of focus for the energy program inside and out and assist the energy program director in advocating for the Trust’s position on energy issues with the media, government, businesses, and the public. The successful candidate will also form and maintain working relationships and partnerships with other organizations, contractors, and government agencies.
