Position Overview
Experienced field botanists needed for vegetation inventory crew in the Chuska Mountains, northern AZ and NM, from early July through at least August. Work involves estimating plant biomass using double sampling method, lots of hiking and driving in steep terrain, camping out, and back-country navigation, all on commercial forests on Navajo Nation land.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of Southwestern montane flora a must.
- Must have own camping gear sufficient for multiple days away from town.
- Must be in shape and willing to get in even better shape.
Compensation: Vehicles will be provided. All work will be via camping, as housing is limited and work areas remote. Crew will work in pairs and alone. Schedule is 10 days on, 4 off, with everyone ready to start back the morning of the first day of each session. Pay is $1,360 per 10-day session, plus $51 per diem per day (typically $510 per session).
