Position Overview

RMI seeks Manager candidates with a strong desire to accelerate the adoption of renewable energy to work with RMI’s Business Renewables Center (BRC).

The BRC focuses on a client/collaborator driven and implementation-focused model. A manager would be expected to be focused on market innovation and take a lead in creating insights and breakthrough ideas in the corporate renewables market. The manager would also oversee specific project delivery and must be client-facing.

BRC unites energy consumers, project developers, and service providers to accelerate and scale renewable energy by:

  • Solving the toughest transactional barriers in the renewable energy market.
  • Accelerating action through shared learning between market participants.
  • Building relationships that promote trust, transparency and collaboration.

The BRC aims to accomplish this in the following ways:

  1. Accelerate: Focus on the biggest problems to unlock scale and execute renewable transactions.
  2. Grow: Expand membership to bring together more buyers in different segments.
  3. Broaden: Develop new products and solutions to grow renewables markets.
  4. Globalize: Reach critical renewables markets around the world to unlock potential growth.

The BRC seeks a manager to work closely with and under the direction of BRC’s principal to set strategy and deliver BRC’s U.S. product work. Core manager-level responsibilities include:

  • Developing the direction of BRC’s U.S. product strategy.
  • Develop new products and services for BRC’s membership that result in immediate innovation to support the renewables market.
  • Work closely with and supports BRC’s senior leadership in creating and determining BRC’s U.S. product strategy.
  • Stay ahead of market conditions and exercise thought leadership regarding high-leverage points of potential intervention for BRC U.S.
  • Collaborate with executives among BRC’s membership to ensure that strategy is consistent with market needs.

Responsibilities

Managing product delivery:

  • Manage staff to ensure delivery of BRC’s U.S. products.
  • Organize and oversee projects, including planning and budgeting, staffing, and execution.
  • Coordinate with appropriate communications and marketing staff regarding product launches.

Coordinating and collaborating with other program staff:

  • Collaborate with other program managers to share best thinking and practices and support each other’s work where necessary.
  • Lead communications and relationship development with leading executives within major companies, renewable developers and service providers.
  • With BRC leaders, act as a primary relationship manager for certain BRC members and stakeholders.
  • Provide clear structure and framework for executive-level written communications and represent RMI as an industry, market and policy expert at events.

Mentoring and developing staff:

  • Supervise, coach and motivate project team members.
  • Provide formal and informal feedback, guidance, career development, and project-level reviews for junior staff.

Qualifications

A successful candidate should have demonstrated leadership and 5+ years of experience in either:

  • Renewable energy transactions or business development; or
  • A key functional area that enables progress in these spaces (e.g., a relevant cleantech start-up environment, management consulting in an electricity-related area, or renewable energy communications).
