With the addition of four Midwestern ethanol plants in July 2015, we have expanded our operations and sales footprint, more than doubling our scale, entering new markets, and expanding our mission to become the industry leader in the production and marketing of low carbon renewable fuels.

Position Overview

The Environmental Specialist role is to manage the fundamental regulatory programs that serve as the backbone of Pacific Ethanol’s environmental compliance system. This is accomplished by utilizing a teamwork approach incorporating strong values of integrity, respect, trust and excellence.

Responsibilities

The following is a list of major duties and responsibilities for this position along with certain supportive duties. It is not all-inclusive. Other duties and responsibilities may be added as needed and in addition; and, management may modify this job description as needed. Key responsibilities include:

  • Manage the following programs required by Pacific Ethanol’s Title V Air Permit
  • Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems
  • Leak Detection and Repair Program
  • Monthly Emission Inventory
  • Write compliance reports required by State and Federal Agencies
  • Maintain employee training, inspections and updates to environmental compliance plans including.
  • Storm water pollution prevention plan
  • Spill Control and Countermeasure plan
  • Facility Response plan
  • Pacific Ethanol Dust Control plan
  • Play an active role in day-to-day communication to Pacific Ethanol’s operations team on environmental compliance
  • Support Environmental Manager in the development of environmental compliance metrics systems
  • Write environmental operating procedures

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Bachelors Degree in environmental related field
  • 1 to 3 years environmental experience preferred
  • Good understanding of air, water and land regulations
  • Proficient in technical writing
  • Very proficient in Microsoft office programs including Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Self starter
  • Must be able to foster team approach in achieving goals
  • Good troubleshooting skills
  • Demonstrated belief in our core values, lead by example

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to work in cold to hot temperatures; work around dust, fumes, and/or moderate to loud noises; works inside and/or outside
  • Able to lift, pull, carry, and pick-up average to heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Able to climb stairs and ladders; walk on paved and unpaved surfaces; sit at a desk and operate a computer and keyboard; visual acuity to review written documentation; ability to hear, speak, and understand speech at normal room levels and on the telephone; manual dexterity to operate a telephone; lift horizontally and vertically, bend, stoop, stand, and reach
  • Ability to work at elevated heights
  • Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions
