~ The Department of Natural Resources has statewide responsibilities for the management and conservation of Georgia’s natural and cultural resources. Most of this work is conducted by DNR’s six operating divisions which include: Coastal Resources Division; Environmental Protection Division; Historic Preservation Division; Law Enforcement Division; Parks, Recreation & Historic Sites Division and Wildlife Resources Division. ~

The Wildlife Resources Division (WRD) regulates hunting, fishing, and the operation of watercraft in Georgia, protects non-game and endangered wildlife, and maintains public education to ensure that Georgia's natural resources will be conserved for our present and future generations.

Position Overview

Under general supervision, the Wildlife Biologist 2 plans, designs, and manages projects to conserve, enhance, and promote aquatic species and habitats in the Upper Coosa River Basin.

Responsibilities

  • Works closely with private landowners and partners to meet conservation goals for high priority watersheds designated in Georgia's State Wildlife Action Plan.
  • Critically reviews project plans, technical documents, and environmental assessments and makes recommendations for preventing or mitigating adverse impacts to aquatic resources.
  • Provides technical support and outreach to individuals, corporations, government agencies, and other conservation partners as needed.
  • Supervises and administers budgeting, inventory control, and report preparations associated with state and federally-funded projects.
  • The duty station for this position will be located in the Upper Coosa River Basin of Georgia.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master of Science Degree in Wildlife Management, Wildlife Biology, Wildlife Science or a related field from an accredited college or university.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience managing and conserving nongame aquatic species in the southeastern United States, including species that are listed, or are candidates or petitioned for listing under the U.S. Endangered Species Act.
  • Experience with the planning and implementation of stream and watershed-level conservation efforts.
  • Experience working with private landowners, agencies and other stakeholders to meet conservation goals.
  • Strong project management skills that include grant writing, budget management, and completion of final reports.
  • Familiarity with data management and GIS software.
