Sacramento Valley Restoration Biologist

Position Overview

The Biologist works with the Science Team and Implementation Team to identify, evaluate, implement and complete restoration, mitigation and consulting activities and interacts with agency staff, research scientists and the public. This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Biological monitoring of restoration projects including monitoring and reporting on occurrences of nesting birds and species of special concern within the project area.
• Developing data collection and monitoring protocols and implementing these activities.
• Collaborating with the field implementation department and assisting in the translation of the site specific design and sensitive species avoidance protocols across the project area.
• Reporting the results of monitoring to the River Partners team orally and in writing.
• Working on educational activities for the public, as well as attending public events to promote the organization and its mission.
• Developing and maintaining good relations with agency personnel, contractors, and neighbors.
• Working long hours and/or weekends in a variety of field conditions.
• Traveling to multiple restoration projects for planning and monitoring, which may include, which may include River Partners’ other branches.
• Other duties as required.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

• BS in biology, ecology, environmental science, or related science.
• Three years of appropriate work experience.
• Creatively solve problems and learn new skills.
• Demonstrate good organizational skills and ability to work under multiple deadlines.
• Driver’s license with no restrictions.
• Possess the ability to communicate in basic Spanish (preferred, but not required).
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

• Must enjoy working with diverse people and organizations to get things done.
• Effectively communicate complicated biological findings orally and in writing.
• Possess knowledge of California plants, riparian ecology, hydrology, soils and /or wildlife. Experience with bird monitoring protocols a plus.
• Ability to work on both a team environment and independently.
• Demonstrate good organizational skills, ability to work under multiple deadlines, and flexibility to handle changing priorities.
• Experience collecting, organizing, and analyzing field data.
• Experience with MS Access or other relational database programs.
• Understand effective use of GIS information.
• Ability to communicate in basic Spanish preferred, but not required
• Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instruction
• Integrity and ethics beyond reproach.
• Commitment and enthusiasm to carry out River Partners mission.

Compensation: This is a full time, permanent, at-will position. Competitive salary dependent on experience. River Partners offers a comprehensive benefits package.
