View our enabling legislation. We own more than 27,000-acres of land and provide a wide array of recreational opportunities and water-related services. Through our Whitney Water Center, we offer hands-on water science programs to thousands of students annually.

On average, we supply 45 million gallons of water a day to a population of some 430,000 persons. We provide water and other services in all or portions of Ansonia, Bethany, Branford, Cheshire, Derby, East Haven, Hamden, Milford, New Haven, North Branford, North Haven, Orange, Seymour, West Haven and Woodbridge. We own land in Beacon Falls, Guilford, Killingworth, Madison, and Prospect.

Position Overview

The Regional Water Authority (RWA) is seeking a Source Water Quality Analyst for its Environmental Planning Department. The Source Water Quality Analyst performs functions related to monitoring reservoir and ground water quality; data management, analysis, and reporting; technical assistance to water treatment operators; regulatory compliance actions; and public outreach and education.

Responsibilities

The essential functions of this position include:

  • Seasonal collection of water quality profiles on RWA reservoirs; data analysis, interpretation, and reporting; programs and actions to maintain compliance with stream flow regulations and other flow management requirements;
  • Recommending reservoir management actions to optimize raw water quality;
  • Monitoring well measurements; presentations at public workshops, meetings, and conferences; and
  • Conducting tours and programs in support of RWA environmental outreach and public education activities.

Qualifications

Qualified applicants will have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in the environmental sciences or related field;
  • CT DEEP Safe Boating Certificate or ability to obtain one; an exceptional background in limnology, hydrology, and aquatic ecology; and
  • A minimum 2 years of experience that includes collecting lake and/or reservoir water quality data, boat trailering and operation, and operating, calibrating, and maintaining water quality datasondes.

Key competencies include:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills;
  • Statistical analysis and data presentation skills;
  • Strong technical writing ability;
  • Capacity to prepare and deliver presentations to technical and nontechnical audiences;
  • Understanding of hydrology and lake and reservoir dynamics; and
  • High proficiency with ArcGIS, MS Excel, MS Word, and MS PowerPoint.
