~ The Saco River Corridor Commission was created in the early 1970’s by the State of Maine legislature to protect the Saco, Ossipee, and Little Ossipee Rivers and their adjacent wetlands and lands from adverse impacts from intensive or poorly planned development. ~
The Commission consists of one member and one alternate member from each municipality with land or a body of water within the Saco River Corridor. The Commission meets at least eight times per year to administer and enforce a set of laws known as the Saco River Corridor Act, 38 M.R.S. §§951-969, and regulations adopted under that Act.
Position Overview
The Saco River Corridor Commission is seeking qualified applicants for the Executive Director position. The position is part-time, typically four days a week.
Responsibilities
The Commission is looking to hire an Executive Director with skill sets that can bridge many complex issues:
- Environment regulations
- Natural Resource Policies
- Water quality monitoring
- Legislative advocacy…and
- Collaboration with federal and state agencies, environmental professionals, university partnerships and local town officials within the Corridor
Other duties:
- Oversee the implementation and enforcement of the Saco River Corridor Act
- Serve as staff to the Commission, providing information and recommendations about policy decisions, budgets, permit applications and other matters on which the Commission must make decisions
- Develop and maintain effective relations with local, state and regional officials and general public
- Implement the seasonal water quality monitoring program and maintain all requirements for funding grants
- Act as representative to the Saco Watershed Collaborative
Qualifications
- Applicants should have a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management and/or Policy and at least 5 years’ relevant experience
- A Master’s Degree is preferred
Compensation: A flexible schedule is available. Salary range is $36,000-$45,000 depending on qualifications.
