Position Overview

The Renewable Development Manager manages the day-to-day aspects of project development from site prospecting through commencement of construction. Responsible for the monitoring and analyses of regulatory policies that influence the viability of renewable energy, energy storage and transmission project sites in the MISO, PJM, NYISO, and ISO-NE power markets. Works within the development team to screen, identify, secure and develop profitable site opportunities to meet RES development goals, as well as provide guidance related to areas having, or likely to have, favorable regulatory climates for project development.

Responsibilities

  • The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. They are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, responsibilities and skills required of personnel so classified.
  • Manage all aspects of a project’s lifecycle from site identification though financial close, working on multiple projects simultaneously. Technology types will include wind, utility scale (>20MW) solar, and energy storage.
  • Identify sites by working with wind and solar resource, energy storage and transmission teams to apply fundamental site criteria (land ownership, resource adequacy, access to existing transmission lines, constructability, etc.) and selecting viable sites for greenfield development.
  • Identify land owners within development sites and negotiate site control agreements. As needed, contract and supervise local land agents. Work extensively with rural communities.
  • Work closely with internal and external legal counsel and senior members of the development team to draft contract documents and leases.
  • Work closely with origination team members to market power from projects.
  • Represent the Company in meetings with regulators, landowner groups and project stakeholders.
  • Manage consultants and other temporary contractors.
  • Participate in environmental and permitting work.
  • Participate in transmission/interconnection process.
  • Identify business opportunities and helps form relationships with key utilities and other potential clients within a region.
  • Work with finance team to assess viability of emerging opportunities.
  • Work with internal engineering and construction teams to identify construction/engineering constraints, prepare construction cost estimates, and hand-off project for construction.
  • Ensure safety requirements are met.
  • Work professionally with clients, vendors, employees, managers and supervisors.
  • Stay current with professional and industry best practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Masters Degree in Business/Management, Finance, Engineering, Natural Resources, or other relevant field.
  • 5+ years of experience in; project development, project management, civil or electrical engineering, construction management, energy policy or regulatory programs, energy related community or non-
  • profit groups, electric utilities, energy project finance, or real estate/ land acquisition or equivalent industry or academic experience.
  • Intermediate skills in successfully managing the full-spectrum of core responsibilities independently or with limited over-sight.
  • Proven abilities in working independently or with limited oversight.
  • Intermediate skills in managing client interactions, delivering on time cost effective projects, and minimizing travel and other costs.
  • Ability to travel, mostly to rural communities.
  • Advanced skills in MSOffice and Outlook, intermediate skills in Google Earth. Experience using ArcGIS or XMap preferred but not required.
