Position Overview

Currently the Atlanta, Georgia office has an opportunity for a Staff Geologist to join our Site Investigation and Remediation Service Line. While you will be based in Atlanta, Georgia, you will have opportunities for travel and field work nationwide. In addition, this position offers rapid professional growth potential by working closely with nationally recognized senior technical experts on developing practical solutions for contaminated sites with complex hydrogeologic settings, challenging regulatory requirements, and evolving stakeholder interests. Our projects include investigation and remediation technologies for a wide variety of emerging and conventional contaminants.

Responsibilities

  • You will work with and be mentored by nationally recognized, senior technical staff on various environmental related projects.
  • Our ideal candidate will have strong verbal and written communication skills, be highly organized and capable of working in a diverse team environment and handling multiple tasks with competing priorities.
  • This position involves a high percentage of field work and some office responsibilities.
  • Field work may include observation of drilling operations, including installation of soil borings, installation of monitoring and groundwater recovery wells, installation of vapor probes, collection and field classification of soil and rock samples and conducting various field tests.
  • Other fieldwork may include groundwater and soil sampling, water-level measurements, aquifer testing, soil vapor sampling, borehole geophysical testing or other tasks.
  • Office work may include preparation of boring logs, hydraulic conductivity calculations and data entry of various field and analytical data.
  • The successful candidate may also provide data interpretation, including preparation of data maps, contour maps and cross-sections, and the preparation of brief sections of report text.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Geology or Hydrogeology required with 0 to 2 years of professional consulting experience; M.S. a plus.
  • Detailed understanding of geologic principles and general awareness of groundwater flow and environmental concepts.
  • Experience with AutoCad, Arc View GIS or well log software (such as gINT) a plus.
  • Applicable candidates should be willing to eventually obtain PG licensure in the state of Georgia.
  • Self-starter, highly organized, reliable, mechanically and results-oriented and able to work well with others.
  • Field assignments require extensive travel year-round with overnight stay outside the Atlanta area.
  • Field assignments require ability to perform physically demanding work.
  • 40 hour HAZWOPER certification a plus.
