Position Overview

The Senior Project Manager has the overall responsibility to ensure that our most technically complex and challenging Commercial Projects are completed successfully, projects costs are managed to budget, the schedule is completed in accordance with the contract milestones.

The Senior Project Manager will at times provide oversight to multiple projects and their associated project teams. The Senior Project Manager will manage the work of the project cross functional team including legal, contracts administration, interconnection and rebates, engineering, purchasing, logistics, and direct hire construction from time of project contracting to its completion.

The Senior Project Manager acts as the REC authorized representative with responsibility for overall project contact administration and client management. The Senior Project Management manages and directs Project Management staff including Project Administrators, Assistant Project Managers, and Project Managers.

Responsibilities

Our ideal Sr. Project Manager will:

  • Manage mid to large commercial solar projects in public and private sector.
  • Depending on workload, project types, and project timing, this position will at times individually manage and oversee all aspects of a portfolio of construction projects and at other times will manage a team of 1 -3 project managers managing individual projects.
  • Own specific projects from cradle to grave with P&L responsibility for owned projects.
  • Lead cross-functional project teams in implementing commercial solar electric systems.
  • Build, manage, and communicate project schedules to stakeholders.
  • Evaluate project resource needs ensuring supply of materials and labor.
  • Develop and execute project risk management plans.
  • Manage stakeholder communications i.e. with customers, project team members, senior management, vendors, etc.
  • Promote positive subcontractor and vendor relations by dealing professionally, ethically and fairly with all subcontractors and vendors and continually instilling this philosophy in the project team at all times.
  • Manage engineering and construction management resources assigned to specific projects.
  • Align support from other departments of the company when necessary.
  • Ensure that projects are completed on time, on budget; safely and fully meet customer expectations.
  • Travel as needed to ensure successful project execution.
  • Develop a thorough knowledge of company policies, procedures and standards of conduct.

Qualifications

What you’ll need in order to succeed:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering or related field.
  • 10-15years of experience managing specialty construction projects in both public and private sectors.
  • Experience on solar projects, including carports, ground mount and roof mount projects.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to develop project schedules and manage teams to key milestones; highlight and escalate missed or "at risk" milestones and identify options and alternatives to keep project on track.
  • Ability to write clear bid packages and scopes of work that limit company exposure to change orders and inherent subcontracting risks.
  • Ability to review client contracts prior to execution and recommend edits that limit company liability.
  • Ability to interpret and proceed according to construction contracts.
  • Strong organizational, communication and customer service skills.
  • Good judgment and analytical skills along with the ability to advise others.
  • Ability to prioritize and complete a variety of simultaneous tasks with a high level of organization.
  • Communicate information effectively, both orally and in writing both internally and externally.
  • Possess strong work and business ethics.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
  • Experience with financial valuation and/or budgeting.
  • Outstanding skill with MS Project and MS Windows applications.
  • Valid state Driver’s license with clean MVR.
  • Must have clean background check and drug test.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Formal leadership and process management training as well as at least 10 years of experience in a primary leadership role.
  • Experience in managing multiple Project Managers running multiple projects.
  • Experience in navigating municipal, state and federal jurisdictions to obtain project design and construction plan approvals.
  • Electrical construction/contracting background.
  • Knowledge of solar electric systems and/or power generation and distribution.
  • Knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
