~ Stanford Earth scientists work to gain a better understanding of our planet's history and its future, the energy and resource base that supports society, geologic hazards that impact a growing population, a changing climate, and the challenge of sustainability. ~

We use a variety of methods and tools to address our research questions, including field work, laboratory and experimental studies, and computer modeling.

Emmett Interdisciplinary Program in Environment and Resources (E-IPER) is an interdisciplinary graduate program that trains the next generation of scholars and leaders to address real-world environment and sustainability problems.

Housed in the School of Earth, Energy & Environmental Sciences (SE3), the program is comprised of about 80 graduate students completing PhD and Joint MS degrees and draws on over 100 affiliated faculty from all seven schools, spanning a broad array of disciplines. The program attracts highly motivated students with significant professional experience and achievements from all over the world, creating a vibrant and exciting community at Stanford. 

Position Overview

We invite applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in the Department of Geophysics at Stanford in any field of observational, experimental, computational or theoretical geophysics. Priority will be given to the overall originality and promise of the candidate's work over any specific area of specialization. We are particularly interested in candidates who can contribute to the inclusive excellence of our academic community.

We seek exceptional individuals who can develop a world-class program of research, and have a strong commitment to teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. A doctorate is required at the time of appointment.
